Rinpoche and the Indian Barber
by admin on Sep.23, 2010, under Tsem Tulku Rinpoche
Tsem Rinpoche cuts his hair around once every 2 weeks, and Rinpoche’s favorite place is the India barber shop across Ladrang, just 3 minutes walk away. The barber that always serves Rinpoche is a young gentleman from India, he is in his late 20s. Few months ago Rinpoche chatted with him and found out that he was going away for a few weeks to get married in India, so Rinpoche gave his around RM200+ as a wedding gift. The barber was very grateful.
Last night Rinpoche went to cut his hair again and found out that the barber’s wife is coming to visit him next week, and Rinpoche asked more details, about how she is coming, how much the airfare is etc., and Rinpoche asked him if his boss is helping the wife’s visit in anyway, the barber said no. After finishing his haircut, Rinpoche gave the barber RM1,300 for the airfare of his wife. The barber was shocked, and had tears in his eyes when receiving the money from Rinpoche.
Nobody would want to part with their loved ones and go so far away to work, unless they have no choice. Rinpoche said he will continue helping this gentleman, as life is not easy for him.
This is just examples of what Rinpoche does always, giving help to strangers who is in need, regardless of their backgrounds, and asking for nothing in return…

Rinpoche has always been very kind to others. It is quite amazing how much he cares for his students, friends and even strangers – a compassionate quality that each of us strive to possess.

Dearest Rinpoche,
There are absolutely no doubts that you are a living Buddha – loving, caring, kind and compassionate to all Sentient Beings.

Rinpcohe has always been helping strangers who are in difficult situations with money and food. I remember Rinpoche has helped sponsored a rickshaw driver for years in India who was earning very little a month and could hardly survive to take of himself and his family.
Rinpoche is a true inspiration to all those who know him, whether in person or through the cyber space.
We can all work to become “spontaneous” when comes to helping others, not just have to be in monetary terms, but in effort and time also.

I always knew there is a reason people regard Rinpoche as a living Buddha…. and Rinpoche is truly amazing when it comes to helping out. Doesnt matter if its our furry friends, unseen friends or us!
May Rinpoche be healthy always!

Thank you, admin, for highlighting one of the many compassionate acts of Rinpoche. And yes, like Anonymous said, Rinpoche’s compassion knows no boundary and not selective to only people.
Together with some long time students and new committed students of Rinpoche, I have been fortunate to witness on many occasions compassionate acts of Rinpoche.
May I follow Rinpoche’s examples, by starting with people around me first, to practice generosity, kindness and compassion to as many as possible.
Thank you, Rinpoche.
